maybe it's not fully insulated around the fixture, or a small break in the insulation, and you're cooking spaghetti which puts a lot of moisture in the air, and the heat from the light bulb is making the light housing warm, allowing the moisture to condense on the inside of the housing, and sometimes there is enough of it to actually drip.<br>
can you get to the bulb side of the fixture to inspect it the next time it happens?<br>

It sounds like the easiest fix is a new muffler.
Assuming the 1830 is the same as my 2230, then the tapped holes are in the muffler; the screws go through a flange on the end of the manifold pipe and thread into the muffler.

I'm guessing that you took the screw out, and made sure it's not stripped and that the threads in the muffler are.

You could drill out the offending threaded hole in the muffler, and either tap it for a heli-coil insert, or tap it to the next larger size. If you go with a heli-coil, your old screw will still work and you won't have to drill out the hole in the flange. The next size up screw will require those things.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but...
Is there any reason the existing rear blade can't be mounted into / onto the bucket of the FEL, and viola, a front blade? I know it won't have the spring mechanism to let the blade flip back when it hits those cracks and what-not in the driveway, but my rear blade has a rubber edge for the first 2" or so, and hasn't been a problem when run on the back of the tractor.

Is this just lunacy, or more work than it's worth? I'd really like to know before I try it this summer. Plowing the snow we've had this year has been a real pain in the neck with the rear blade.

It sounds to me like your ignition switch is faulty, especially since you stated that nothing comes on when you turn the switch. A wiring diagram would tell you what terminals to check with the key in different positions.

On my BX2230, the model previous to yours, the engine cover comes off without removing that brush guard. I lift the hood, unbolt the cover and disconnect the headlight wires, then close the hood but don't latch it. Now there is enough room to slide the cover forward until it hits the grill guard, then spread is slightly and raise it off. It takes some fiddling and would be easier with one person on either side of the tractor, but I've managed it by myself a few times. Once to replace the headlights. (I still swear that log jumped right out of the brush pile and into my headlight!)

The position control knob is nothing more that stepped surface, sort of like a spiral staircase, that prevents the mower linkage from lowering past which ever 'step' is turned to be in the way of the linkage. Did that make any sense? The likely cause of not being able to get it to the 'top' position, is that the deck linkage isn't going high enough to allow that step to turn under the linkage. Try holding the 3 PT lever in the up position to make sure it's all the way up, then try turning the knob. Also, have you adjusted the deck at all? I think the adjustment linkages will allow you to make it so it won't go all the way up any more. The manual explains that part of it, just not very clearly.

In your manual, it describes how to make this adjustment. Basically, there is a rod under the seat on the right side that has some adjustable stops on it. You have to adjust them so they force the lever back to the neutral position at the end of the travel for the 3 point. If you lift the seat and watch how the rod moves when the 3 point is raised and lowered, it should become obvious what to adjust and to where.

.01 is what I remembered (I thought) from years ago. I called one shop, and they said bring it in and they'd set it, for $20. I said no thanks, and made a mental note to never go there in the future. I'll keep calling though. Someone ought to be helpful enough to just tell me the setting.

I have a BX2230 also, with the bar tires. With the deck all the way up, the rear tires will just catch the lower lip of the deck, pulling it down, then releasing it, making a banging noise. I've gotten in the habit of raising the deck, then lowering it slightly before driving off.
You might want to try raising the deck, then stopping to see if you have any clearance issues anyplace.

I don't have a BX24, I've got the BX2230. Very similar. I went with the CCM brand MR-145. It's 49" wide and weighs in at 495#. The tractor has absolutely no issues with lifting or running it. None. At 49", it covers the tire tracks from the tractor, which is good. The tractor is rated for around 700#, 24" back, so I'm guessing the weight limit you cited came from the section of the owners manual that lists limits for all the different attachments.
I've heard that the King Kutter brand is also well built, but suffers from poor paint quality. And of course the Land Pride and Woods units won't disappoint either. And then there's the issue of chain drive vs. gear drive. Unless you're using it commercially, I doubt any of them will give you any reason to complain.

I think what he means is make sure the control lever for the 3pt hitch is not in the 'raise' position. It needs to be back in the 'neutral' position. On my BX if the lever gets left in the raise position, my FEL will barely go up at all. The lever is supposed to auto-return to the neutral position, but may not be adjusted properly.

Try the Wikipedia web site... it has a fairly good description of the situation.
In essence, as the angle between the drive and driven shafts increases from 0 degrees (straight line, no bend), the relative speeds of the two shafts vary from one another, first speeding up, then slowing down. The greater the angle between the shafts, the greater the maximum difference in rotational speed. By keeping the two universal joints lined up as Murf described, the effects nearly cancel themselves out, but not quite. The effect isn't symmetrical, so the slowdown at one end can't quite make up for the speed up at the other end.

I would just borrow dads BX23 to see if that's big enough for the jobs you have. If not, move up accordingly. The backhoe won't fit anything you buy without the attaching hardware that is part of the tractor, and you'd need the swivel seat too.
A bigger machine will make the work go faster, but I think a BX will do what you want.

I have exactly that combination, a BX w/ FEL and 5' blade, that I use for snow on my 750' paved drive. The blade will catch on the breaks in the concrete, and scrape off the sealer on the blacktop. To fix that, I added a rubber edge (tire re-tread from the side of the highway) to the blade. Works great. For deep snow, I have to turn the blade backward and go in reverse. Running the blade forward / tractor in reverse didn't work very well for me. The blade lifted, and snow wouldn't roll off the end very well. The FEL works great for pushing back the banks. You do have to be carefull not to catch the edge though. Just go slow.
The real answer is a front snow blower. I just can't justify the cost though.

There isn't a sensor for the HST. It's only on the Japanese version I think. The location on the HST doesn't even exist. I had intended to put a parking brake warming light in that location on the dash, but got used to checking the brake before driving off, and don't need it anymore.

if the problem is that you can't get them back together, try putting a 1/4 socket extensiion in the female end, covering it with a rag, and hitting the ext. with a small hammer to relieve any pressure in the line. a little fluid will come out, hence the rag. make sure you relieve the pressure before you disconnect them in the future by turning off the engine and cycling the control lever.

The mower and the 3 pt are both run off the same lift mechanism, so there is no way to isolate one from the other. You can do essentially the same thing you do by setting the mower height to 'top' by diconnecting the top end of the links to the lower control arms of the 3 pt, and connecting them to the anchors on the body of the tractor. The manual does a better job of describing this that I did. The only problem is if you have any weight on the 3pt, you'll have to find a way to support it while you change the connection.

I just put a set of their 'magnum' blades on my 60" kubota bx deck. Mowed once with them. They work fine, but not as well as I had hoped. The clippings don't really seam any smaller. Like you, I'm not set up as a mulcher deck, and I'm sure that makes a difference. The amount of lift they refer to just indicates how much 'suction' they generate. I had hoped these would do a better job of pulling up the grass from the front tire tracks. The jury is still out on that one.
